Taika Waititi has not been mincing his words when it comes to how Thor: Love and Thunder have been released. He recently spoke about releasing a director’s cut of the film, and flat out said that he thinks the director’s cuts are “not good.” Now, the director has stated that we are likely to never see the deleted scenes with Lena Headey and Jeff Goldblum. According to Waititi, “You have to do what’s best for the film. If you ask any of those actors who were cut out — Jeff Goldblum, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage — they all understand how it works. They have been in the game long enough. But that’s just the way I look at things.”

He does have an excellent point in that there are plenty of actors that have been cut from films or seen their work just not make it to the final cut of a television show or film. That is just the nature of the business. Even though fans would love to see Lena Headey and Jeff Goldblum make their cameos in the film. Quite honestly, we have no idea what Lena Headey was going to be doing in the film, so that is much more intriguing. We all know that Goldblum is The Grandmaster, and all but enslaved different races to fight as gladiators. Even Dinklage as Eitri was not good enough to make it into the final cut. Taika Waititi added, “People say, ‘I can’t wait for the deleted scenes with those actors.’ I don’t want people to see the deleted scenes because they’re deleted for a reason: They aren’t good enough. The scenes were not in the movie and that’s it.”

Again, we understand where Taika Waititi is coming from in the sense of being a director. The man is likely tired of having to be asked why Jeff Goldblum and Lena Headey had been cut from the film. Then again, if we are being honest, the pacing was a rough spot for Thor: Love and Thunder. Having an extra 30 minutes to add some more fleshing out of the characters in the film might have helped it quite a bit. The film currently has a 67% critic rating with an 81% audience rating. Clearly, audiences are enjoying the film more, but we understand why it’s a bit lower in the critic area of scoring. We don’t know that Goldblum and Headey would have added more to the overall story, but it would have been nice to see them make cameos.

Jeff Goldblum, Lena Headey, and Peter Dinklage were all cut from the film, and it sounds as if we are not going to see those scenes when Thor: Love and Thunder hits home release in the coming months. It might be time to move on from the idea of directors releasing an expanded cut. Even though Zack Snyder had done it in a rare occurrence, that doesn’t mean that everyone is willing to do the same. However, we do hope that Taika Waititi is a bit more generous with what deleted scenes are shown in the home copy of the film.

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently in theaters, though fans won’t be seeing Jeff Goldblum or Lean Headey make their cameos. There is still a big cameo in the form of a mid-credits scene, but we will allow fans to watch the film to see who we are talking about. We hope to see those deleted scenes in the future, but it doesn’t sound promising currently.
