A 28-year-old woman was arrested, along with her mother, after she posed as a 17-year-old student at a Louisiana high school by using false identification, authorities said.
Martha Jessenia Gutierrez-Serrano, 28, and her mother, Marta Elizeth Serrano-Alvarado, 46, were arrested Tuesday morning and charged with “injuring public records,” the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Serrano-Alvarado allegedly registered her 28-year-old daughter at Hahnville High School in Boutte for the 2022-2023 academic year using a falsified passport and birth certificate, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to the department, Marta Serrano registered and enrolled her daughter at the school using a forged passport and birth certificate.
The Sheriff’s Office did not reveal the name Martha Gutierrez used while attending school.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified by St. Charles Parish Public Schools that a female student beyond the legal age limit had been registered at Hahnville High School for the 2022-2023 academic year using fraudulent documents.
In addition to revising policies and procedures as needed, the school system will strengthen processes for checking the authenticity of enrollment documents for current and prospective students.
